In this video, we will be replacing the cabin filter in this 2008 Hyundai Elantra. The cabin filter is located on the passenger side of the vehicle and will be accessed through the glove compartment.
First, open the glove compartment and remove all the items from it. Next, maneuver the retaining clips. Removing the retaining clips is probably the most difficult portion of this job. On the right side of the glove compartment, there is one more piece that needs to be removed before the glove compartment can drop all the way down.
With the glove compartment out of the way, there is access to the housing for the cabin air filter located on the right side. It has a retaining clip that, when pinched together and wiggled, will expose the cabin air filter. Pull out the old cabin air filter and inspect the old and new filters. The old filter has collected a lot of debris and it is well overdue for a change. The manufacturer recommends changing these filters every 12 months.
Before installing the new cabin air filter, verify the direction of air flow in the old filter. The air flow arrow indicator was pointing downward, and in the new filter, make sure to install it with the air flow indicator arrow in the downward orientation. Once the direction of air flow is determined, reinstall the cabin air filter and continue assembly in the reverse order of disassembly. After the retaining clips have been reinstalled, put everything back in the glove box and the repair is complete.
