Mastering the 2012 Ford Fusion Electric Power Steering: Software, Equipment, and Programming Guide

Programming the Electric Steering Column

Today on Mobile Electronic Diagnostic, we are dealing with the electric steering column of a Ford Fusion or Ford Taurus from 2011. Unlike traditional power steering systems, this car’s rack and pinion is electric, with a motor inside. It’s essential to program and activate it properly to avoid potential issues down the road.

Required Software and Equipment

We are using the FGDS software version 123.01, which is a subscription-based service. Additionally, we need a DLC connector and a pass-through device to interface with the car’s systems. For Ford vehicles, the original Ford tools do not work, and we have to use alternative devices for programming and diagnostics. We also attempt to use the FDRS interface but encounter some issues.

Programming Process

After ensuring the internet connection and ignition are on, we proceed to program the power steering control module (PSCM). It’s crucial to have a full battery charge for the vehicle. Despite encountering some difficulties in obtaining the necessary part number, we navigate through the process while troubleshooting technical glitches. We explore alternative interfaces in an attempt to overcome the issues and eventually decide to try the FDRS software for the next stage of the process.

Stay tuned for the continuation of this diagnostic process in the next episode of Mobile Electronic Diagnostic!
