Jeep XJ Transmission Cooler: An Essential Guide to Improved Off-Road Performance

Welcome to today’s installation guide where we’ll take the first steps towards getting our jeep ready for summer camping by installing an external transmission cooler. We chose the Hypercool Dual Remote Cooler from Dural Performance for its dual waterproof and dustproof fans, ensuring durability during various driving conditions such as water crossings, mud, or car washes.

The cooler came with fittings for easy installation, and to ensure the rubber hoses don’t kink, we used 90-degree elbows as well. We’ll walk you through the process step by step with all the necessary details, including the modifications required to mount the cooler in the backside of the cross member between the front unibody rails for optimal placement and clearance.

After removing the front header panel to access the old transmission cooler and the transmission line, we marked the new location for the external trans cooler and made the necessary modifications to ensure a perfect fit.

Once we had the cooler mocked up, we proceeded with cutting, welding, and painting to prepare for the final mounting. With the cooler securely in place, we wired up the fans, plumbed the lines, and conducted tests to ensure everything was functioning as expected.

The results are impressive, with the installation providing efficient cooling without being overly loud or obtrusive. Overall, the process turned out to be a success, and we’re pleased with the performance of the transmission cooler for our Jeep.
