Oil Capacity 2008 Ford Escape: Complete Guide for Optimal Maintenance

Welcome everyone! Today, I’m going to walk you through the process of changing the oil in a 2008-2012 Ford Escape. Before we proceed, make sure to subscribe to our channel for more informative content like this.

The procedures I use will be specific to the 2008 Escape XLT, but these steps will be similar for many Ford Escapes from 2008 to 2012. However, it’s essential to know the specifics for your vehicle before getting started.

If you’re not comfortable doing this yourself, I’d recommend seeking a professional technician in your area. Now, let’s dive into the process:

  1. Run the engine until it reaches operating temperature or until the fan comes on. Then, turn off the engine.
  2. Raise and support the front end of the vehicle.
  3. Slide a drain pan into place under the drain plug.
  4. Use a ratchet and 15 millimeter socket to remove the drain plug and let the oil run out completely.
  5. Wipe any excess oil from around the opening and off the drain plug using a rag or shop towel.
  6. Replace the drain plug and tighten it to 18 foot-pounds.
  7. Locate the oil filter, make sure your drain pan is directly under it, and use a filter wrench to loosen it if needed.
  8. Finish removing it by hand, pour the oil from the filter into the drain pan, and wipe down the area where the filter was threaded. Ensure the old O-ring came off with the filter.
  9. Lubricate the new O-ring with fresh oil, thread the new filter into place by hand, and give the filter three-quarters of a turn to secure it.
  10. Open the hood, locate the oil fill cap, and refill the oil with the specified amount and type recommended by the manufacturer.
  11. Use the dipstick to check the oil level, start the engine, let it run for at least three minutes, then turn off the engine and check the oil level again, ensuring there aren’t any leaks.
  12. Slide the drain pan out from under the car when you’re sure there aren’t any leaks. It’s now safe to lower the front end and close the hood.
  13. To reset the oil life indicator, press and release the setup button until you see the oil life percentage hold reset displayed. Press and hold the reset button for 2 seconds or until “oil life set to 100” is displayed.
