Understanding Chevrolet’s Service Tire Pressure Monitor System: A Comprehensive Guide

Welcome to another episode of Sandy Killer Projects! Today, we’ll show you how to reset the tire pressure monitoring system on the generation 2 (2007-2014) Chevy Silverado. Currently, there are three different generations of the Silverado: 1999-2006, 2007-2014, and 2015-2023. In this video, we’ll focus on explaining how the system works for the Gen 2 and Gen 3 Silverado models.

First, inside the cab, turn the car on into the “on” position with all features functioning except for the engine running. Ensure the key is in the “on” position. For Gen 3 models, navigate through the information system to access the tire pressure settings. For Gen 2, put the car into the “on” position and then hold the lock and unlock button on the remote until the car beeps twice to initiate the tire pressure learning mode.

Once in the learning mode, the marker light will indicate which tire’s pressure needs to be learned. Depress the Schrader valve inside the tire valve to release air until the horn beeps once. Follow the marker lights to repeat the process for each tire position.

If the marker light for a specific tire position does not turn off after releasing air, it may indicate a problem with the tire pressure monitor in that tire. In some cases, the tire pressure monitoring sensor may need to be replaced due to battery failure. Also, consider checking and adjusting the tire pressures using a separate tool.

Keep in mind that if one tire pressure monitoring sensor goes bad, it’s likely the others will also start failing. Replacing them is recommended, though it may incur additional costs and labor to access the sensors behind the valves. Ensure the tires are inflated to the recommended pressure for your specific equipment.

It’s essential to verify the tire pressure using an alternate method, regardless of the tire pressure monitor sensor functionality.
