Today, we’re going to guide you through the process of replacing the starter in a 2005 Honda Accord. The starter is located under the intake manifold, and we’ll walk you through the steps to get the job done.
First, we’ll need to remove the cover with a ten millimeter socket to gain access to the starter. This will give us a better view of everything we’re working with.
Most tutorials recommend removing the throttle body, but we’ll take a different approach to avoid that step. We’ll start by removing the negative terminal from the battery, followed by the intake hose, and then work around the throttle body to see what can be done.
After removing the intake hose, we’ll work on disconnecting everything connected to the throttle body, including cables and coolant hoses. It’s essential to mark the position of the nuts when removing the cables to ensure they are placed back in the exact position during reassembly.
Using a number twelve wrench, we’ll remove the cables and then proceed to disconnect the coolant hoses and unbolt the wire harness from the intake manifold. Additionally, there are two hoses attached to a little clip at the back that need to be pulled off.
Once everything from the throttle body is unplugged and removed, we’ll proceed to remove six number twelve bolts from the intake manifold – five up top and one at the bottom on a bracket. With the bolts out, the intake manifold can be pulled out and set aside.
Now that the intake manifold has been removed, we have a clear view of the starter. There are a few bolts to be taken out, and we’ll unplug the connections to free the starter. A number 12 wrench and sockets of various sizes will be used for this step.
Once the old starter is out, we’ll replace it with the new one and then proceed to put everything back together by installing the intake manifold, reconnecting wires and hoses, and securing the throttle body and cables.
And that’s it! The new starter is installed, and it’s time to put everything back together and give it a try.
