Maximizing Performance: 2011 Ford Fusion Power Steering Guide

Just got off my first job to come to my beautiful job – you know, be your boss type deal. I’m working on this 2011 Ford Fusion. Came here with a power steering service issue, so it did not have power steering when it came in.

I did a scan, and it had a weird code (P07-09 or something like that). It was not a motor or transmission power steering failure, and it kept telling me to reset it. So, I reset it with my scanner.

However, it turns out that a scanner will not do a full reset because the memory is stored in the radio. To clear the code, you would have to disconnect your positive and negative battery cables, touch them together for a few seconds, and leave them disconnected for six hours to fully drain the radio memory.

When I started the car back up, I gained power steering back. It’s important to note that if you have a tire pressure sensor fault, it will eventually cause the power steering assist to quit again. So, if a light comes on the dashboard saying “service your power steering assist” and you also have a tire pressure sensor service light, it’s crucial to address the problem.

As weird as it sounds, Ford likes to be a pain sometimes. Good luck!
