Welcome to K Diagnostics Auto Channel! Today, we will diagnose and fix a starting issue with a 2015 Chevy Malibu equipped with a 2.5-liter engine. The car won’t start, and the key sticks in the ignition. This issue has been diagnosed on my brother’s car, and I will share the process of identifying and resolving the problem.
The car was running fine, but it failed to start when my brother returned, even after jump-starting and replacing the battery. Upon further examination, it was found that connecting two terminals under the hood allowed the car to start, indicating a potential electrical problem.
Although the battery showed 12 volts, the key was stuck in the ignition, and there were no dashboard lights when attempting to start the car. After conducting voltage drop tests, it was discovered that the dual battery control module (DBCM) was failing. The DBCM was dropping the voltage, resulting in the starting issue.
Replacing the DBCM resolved the issue, restoring the proper voltage readings, and allowing the car to start without the need to jump terminals. The check engine light also turned off after the fix.
