Master Your Honda Accord: Understanding and Changing Transmission Fluid

Welcome back to the Lemon Factor! I’m Chad, and in today’s video, we’re going to cover how to change the automatic transmission fluid on a 10th Generation Honda Accord, specifically the 2019 Honda Accord 2.0 Touring with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The nice weather is here, the track is ready to open up, and we’re excited to start testing the car’s performance with over 400 wheel horsepower. But before we do that, we need to prep the car. I’ve already done an oil change and put on our sticky summer tires. Now, with the car at around 20,000 miles and significant testing, I’m going to demonstrate how to change the automatic transmission fluid.

I’ve seen quotes from Honda charging $300 to $400 for this service, which I find ridiculous. You can easily do it yourself for less than a hundred dollars, primarily for the ATF type 2.0 transmission fluid.

We start by warming up the car and then placing it on jack stands to ensure it’s level. We remove the belly pan and then locate the fill bolt and drain plug for the transmission fluid.

After loosening the fill bolt, we carefully drain the old fluid, clean the area, replace the washer, and torque it down. We then proceed to fill the transmission with new fluid using a hose and a funnel. It takes about four and a half quarts of fluid.

Once filled, we start the car, warm up the transmission, and then go through a specific sequence of shifting gears. After this, we go back under the car to remove the bolt for the level line to ensure the fluid is at the right level.

Following this, we test drive the car to ensure smooth transitioning between gears and check for leaks, concluding the process.

Thank you for joining me today, and remember, the warm weather is just around the corner!
