Today, we’re going to replace the alternator located just to the left of your front catalytic converter. Here are the steps you need to follow:
Disconnect the Battery
Using a 10 millimeter socket, disconnect the battery’s Ground Terminal and set it aside. Gently pull upward on the upper engine cover and set it aside.
Disconnect the Serpentine Belt
Use a 14-millimeter socket on the tensioner to release the belt. Then, lift up on a little tab using a pocket screwdriver to detach the wiring harness from the bracket.
Remove the Alternator
Disconnect the wiring harness and remove any other pieces connected to the alternator to allow flexibility. Use a wrench and socket to loosen and remove the bolts holding the alternator in place.
Install the New Alternator
Swap the bracket onto the new alternator and tighten it. Maneuver the new alternator into place and secure the bolts. Reconnect the wiring harness and the serpentine belt.
Reconnect the Battery and Test
Reconnect the battery’s Ground Terminal and make sure everything is tightened properly. Finally, start the car and check that the new alternator is working correctly.
